What does it consist of?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) offers a unique approach to treating a variety of diseases, based on the understanding that disease results from energy imbalances affecting organs such as the lungs, spleen and kidneys. The goal is to restore the balance of Qi (vital energy), strengthen the body and treat the underlying causes, not just the symptoms.
.
Main Techniques Used

  • Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the most studied and applied techniques in the treatment of asthma. The choice of points varies according to the individual energetic diagnosis and may include points such as Feishu (B13), Zhongfu (P1), Dingchuan (extra), among others. Acupuncture works by improving organ function, reducing inflammation, regulating the immune system and relieving symptoms. It provides psychological benefits, such as reducing stress and anxiety, which can aggravate other pathologies.
According to an international study, the combination of acupuncture with conventional treatment resulted in significant improvements in patients' physical and mental health, as well as an increase in their quality of life.

  •  Moxibustion

Moxibustion involves applying heat to acupuncture points, usually by burning the herb Artemisia vulgaris. This technique stimulates the meridians, strengthens Qi (energy) and warms the body, and is especially useful in cases of Yang deficiency or cold invasion. Moxibustion can improve immunity, inhibit airway inflammation and reduce bronchial hyperresponsiveness (BHR), which is the excessive sensitivity of the airways that become narrow.

  • Chinese Phytotherapy

The use of herbal formulas (Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine) is personalized for each patient, aiming to strengthen the lungs, eliminate mucus, reduce inflammation and balance energy. The formulas are adjusted according to the diagnosed energy pattern, such as excess mucus, heat or energy deficiency.

  •  Tui Na (Therapeutic Massage)

Tui Na therapeutic massage can be used, especially in children or people with an aversion to needles, to stimulate points and meridians, relieve symptoms and promote energy balance.

  •  Cupping and Auriculotherapy

Cupping therapy and auriculotherapy are complementary techniques that help relieve symptoms, strengthen the respiratory system and reduce the frequency of attacks.

  •  Breathing Exercises and Qi Gong

  •  Dietary Counseling

Differentiated Diagnosis and Individualized Treatment

In TCM, diagnosis is essential to determine the most appropriate treatment.
Both Traditional Chinese Medicine/Acupuncture and Osteopathy are considered complementary therapies, that is, they must be integrated with conventional medical treatment.
The integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine/Acupuncture and Osteopathy in the treatment of asthma offers proven benefits, such as reduced symptoms, improved organ function, reduced inflammation and improved quality of life.

Always consult a qualified health professional to assess your case and indicate the best therapeutic plan.

Osteopathy

The definition of Osteopathy comes from the Greek, which means Ostión (bone) and Pathos (disease).
It is a manual therapy that emerged in the USA through Surgeon Dr. Andrew Taylor Still (1828-1917) who enunciated the principles of this natural medicine therapy.

Importance of Osteopathy in Spinal Problems

Osteopathy stands out as a fundamental approach for the evaluation, treatment and prevention of spinal problems, being recognized for its effectiveness, safety and global approach to the human body.

ACTION OF OSTEOPATHY

The locomotion apparatus,
Spine, Joints, Muscles, Ligaments and Fascias.
The Visceral System,
Certain functional imbalances.
Cranial Osteopathy.

METHODOLOGY
Structural techniques: Joint manipulations.

Rhythmic techniques: Stretches, pompages.

Functional techniques: Relaxation of the fascia.

THERAPEUTIC PRINCIPLE

Dr Nicolau Martins, during decades of clinical practice, developed his own methodology, which consists of ATP:

1. Assessment . (It is a complex and exhaustive process. It studies the possible causes (pain is a symptom). It seeks to identify the underlying causes of dysfunctions, analyzing posture, mobility, movement patterns, possible compensations in other parts of the body, traumas, etc.

2. Treatment. Perform the most appropriate treatments for the situations highlighted. Osteopathic treatment is performed through delicate and non-invasive manual techniques, such as manipulation, mobilization, stretching, and massage.
. These techniques aim to:

  •  Realign the vertebral and joint structures

  •  Reduce muscle tension

  •  Improve blood circulation and tissue nutrition

  •  Promote postural and functional balance of the body

3. Prevention. In any chronic situation, prevention must be mandatory to prevent the condition from developing/worsening. Guide the patient on postural habits, ergonomics, stretching and strengthening exercises and stress management techniques, promoting a healthy lifestyle and preventing relapses.

Did you know?
In the USA, millions of osteopathy consultations are performed annually. It is the 5th most common reason for doctor visits.
80% of the world's population will have some kind of back problem during their lifetime.

Pain can cause:
Depression, low self-esteem, fatigue, lack of concentration.

Summary of the Benefits of Osteopathy for the Spine

  •  Global and individualized assessment of the causes of pain and dysfunction

  •  Manual treatment, safe and without side effects

  •  Pain relief

  •  Improved posture and mobility

  •  Prevention of injuries and chronic problems

  •  Reduced need for medication

  •  Promotion of general well-being and quality of life

Osteopathy, therefore, is a valuable and differentiated tool in approaching problems of the Spine and Limbs by treating the cause, thus promoting symptom relief, and
preventing new dysfunctions.

Pathologies that benefit from Osteopathy Treatment.

  • Muscle pain in the neck, shoulders or arms, resulting from chronic pathologies or injuries (e.g., cervical injuries) Cervicobrachial neuralgia

  • Stiff necks, acute or chronic herniated discs, contractures and generalized muscle pain. Dizziness.

  • Chronic or Acute Low Back Pain and Dorsalgia, Sciatica

  • Scapulohumeral periarthritis

  • Sprains, Acute or Chronic, Strains

  • Tendinitis, Epicondylitis

  • Knee and Hip Pain

  • Temporomandibular Dysfunction (TMD)
